DISCOVER WOOL

WHY WOOL?

Godfrey Hirst chose WOOL as its fiber of choice for the North American market. The wool fiber production process consists of The Natural Elements…Sun, Rain, Grass and Sheep. No artificial ingredients needed, no artificial ingredients added.

Wool is natural..
Wool shorn from sheep is completely natural.  It is composed entirely of amino acids, the building blocks of life.

Wool is sustainable..
It is produced from a totally renewable resource – grass – and is thus environmentally sound

Wool is renewable..
Sheep can be shorn every 9 – 12 months.  New Zealand sheep are renowned for producing the best carpet wools available.

Wool is biodegradable..
In soil, wool readily biodegrades to produce nitrogen, sulfur, carbon dioxide and water, which are all plant nutrients.

Wool carpet is naturally stain and soil resistant..
The wool fiber’s structure consists of overlapping scales, arranged much like roof shingles.  These scales inhibit dirt from adhering to the fiber and help fleck it away.  Wool has significantly better soil release than any other fiber.  Wool cleans better, making stain protection unnecessary.

Wool carpet is naturally crush-resistant..
The wool fiber is naturally curly, and it has more crush resistance than any other fiber.

Wool carpet is hypo-allergenic..
Wool is non-allergenic and does not promote the growth of dust mites or bacteria.

Wool carpet by Godfrey Hirst is affordable..
Godfrey Hirst is one of the largest wool manufacturers in the world, so it can provide an exceptional selection of value priced carpets

What is Tactesse?

It may be just what you've been looking for. Tactesse is the new DuPont fiber that brings a revolutionary combination of beauty, elegance and durability to DuPont STAINMASTER carpets.

Tactesse is available in three distinct luster levels:

  • Tactesse Vibrant Luster: A new, brighter luster for elegant decors.
  • Tactesse Classic: The original Tactesse.® A mid-luster for high fashion designs.
  • Tactesse Natural Luster: A new subdued luster for sophisticated interiors.

All three lusters provide the same incredible durability that has made Tactesse the industry's greatest innovation.

Why does Tactesse Feel So Good?

The unique touch of Tactesse fiber is achieved by using finer filaments, which yeilds a lower denier per filament (dpf). Normally, the dpf of residential carpet fibers ranges from 17 to 21. The filaments of Tactesse fiber are approximately 12 dpf, providing the optimum balance between floor performance and general aesthetics.

Why does Tactesse Look So Good?

The beauty of STAINMASTER carpet containing Tactesse fiber is due to both the unique cross-section of the fiber and delustering additives within the nylon polymer itself.

In the past, only natural fibers such as cotton, wool or silk could offer such a combination of elegance and beauty - but with the traditional problems of cost, pilling, matting and crushing. Now INVISTA we has achieved the desirable characteristics of natural fibers in a nylon carpet fiber.

Why does Tactesse Perform So Well?

Carpets made from Tactesse fiber stand up against traffic and wear because the individual fiber cross-section has been altered to obtain a tighter, more densely packed fiber bundle with fewer air pockets. This increases resistance to matting and crushing. In addition, cut pile carpets with this unique fiber cross-section have sharp, pin-point tufts and a crisp, clean-looking pile surface.

Carpets made with Tactesse fiber also contain all of the benefits of  STAINMASTER carpet with the Advanced Teflon Repel System: Type 6,6 nylon durability for crush resistance, INVISTA warranties against staining and soiling, and permanent static protection.

Tactesse nylon fiber provides carpets with beauty, elegance, durability and an incredibly soft touch. Isn't that just what you've been looking for?

Plan Ahead.

Before you begin shopping, make sure you're fully prepared. Consider everything that will affect your carpet choice.

Carpet for the way you live. Do you have children, pets, frequent visitors? These and other factors increase carpet wear, so choose a durable carpet like a frieze or a dense saxony.

Carpet with a purpose. What type of room will you be carpeting? Will it be used often? Will people be eating or drinking there? Stain Blocked Nylon is a good choice for rooms subject to food and beverage spills.

Carpet with a flair. What decorating style have you chosen? Do you have a color scheme in mind? Do you want to coordinate the carpet with any other furnishings? Bring upholstery and drapery samples when you shop for carpet to ensure your carpet choice achieves your desired look.

Carpet within your budget. How much of your decorating budget will be used for carpeting? Most people shopping for quality can expect to spend $15-30 per square yard/$1.70-3.35 per square foot. Keep in mind, your actual cost will include not only the carpet, but padding, installation and regular maintenance. If you can calculate your cost per year.

It's smarter to be dense. Carpet pile is the yarn on the face of the carpet. A quality carpet has a firm, dense pile. To check the carpet's density, bend a corner of the carpet and see how much backing shows. The more backing that shows, the less dense and durable your carpet.
Many consumers equate a bulky, soft feel with quality and performance. But the most durable carpets have tightly twisted yarns densely packed into the carpet. The following is information on the durability of the most common types of carpet available: (photos above)

Loop: Loop carpets are marked by a continuous
uncut surface that resists crushing and matting.
Berber style loop carpets wear as well and are
suited for any room. ThermaSealed from
Wear-Dated Carpet offers wool-like berbers with
nylon performance.

Textured Saxony: They're tough enough for any room and the sculpted design won't show dirt or footprints easily.

Cut: The loops of a cut pile are cut to expose the
yarn ends. You'll find cut piles in a variety of styles
to suit any room in your home. In general, a bright fiber will show footprints more than a mid-bright because of the difference in color between the
ends and side of the tuft.

Frieze: A smart choice for any high traffic area - family rooms, foyers, or kids' rooms. They're less likely to show vacuum marks or footprints than other cut pile styles.

Velvet-plush:
This rich luxurious surface is styled for rooms with little traffic, such as a formal living or
dining room. The bright surface shows footprints
and vacuum marks easily.

Cut and Loop: Cut and loop carpets combine these two carpet piles, usually in a pattern. The styles vary from casual multi-colored to solid colored, highly styled patterns.

Saxony:
Great for a less formal room, such as a family room or den, but they will show footprints more easily than a textured style.

Fibers-
Nylon: Nylon particularly type6, 6 by Solutia Inc., is
the strongest, most durable and most widely used fiber. The soft texture holds its color well, resists
most food and beverage stains and many oil-based stains, and is easy to clean.
Polyester: These carpets are reasonably durable, but some are more susceptible to oil-based stains.

Wool: Wool carpets are warm and durable, but can
be damaged by alkaline cleaning detergents. They're also available in fewer shades because they don't
take bright color dyes well.

Polypropylene: Polypropylene carpets are moisture resistant and are available in a limited selection of colors. They also lack bounce and resiliency in all but the most dense constructions.
